Mobile Phones Dominate Politics In 2010

MIAMI (CBS4) - It may be taboo on a first date, but Americans loved talking about politics in 2010. A new Pew Internet Poll found 26 percent of all Americans used a mobile phone to learn or communicated about the midterms.

The survey's findings reinforced the growing consensus that mobile phones are the next big thing in politics.

Twenty-seven percent of mobile phone customers used their cell phones to tell others they had voted, according to the poll. Fifteen percent of all mobile phone owners said they used their phones to read the latest election news and 18 percent used them to talk to others about the midterms.

The Pew poll also found that those who used mobile phones for a political purpose tended to be better educated and typically in the 18-29 year old demographic. Ninety-two percent of those who used mobile phones have broadband at home and 72 percent own laptops.
