Detective Shoots At Car After Being Struck

MIRAMAR (CBS4) - Miramar police continue to look for the driver of a newer model silver dodge charger who was involved in a confrontation with police Thursday night.

It happened at a home on the 6800 block of SW 26th Court. Police say a Miramar detective along with two uniformed officers were making their way up the driveway of the home to check on a case, when a man in a Dodge Charger abruptly flew out of the driveway striking the detective. The detective opened fire on the car and the bullets hit the front windshield and the back window of the charger.

"We thought it was fireworks but it was bullets," said Sally Smith, who lives a few doors down from where the confrontation happened. "We live right here. What if we had been walking outside? So I'm concerned. What if the man was looking at us?"

The Miramar detective was hit in the leg and taken to the hospital where he was treated and released. He is on paid administrative leave.

CBS4 News reporter Joan Murray made contact with an occupant at the home where the confrontation took place. A man inside says he doesn't know anyone who drives a silver dodge charger.

"It's a good area," Smith said. "If a shooting happened at your home wouldn't you be concerned if they came to your house."

Police continue to look for the car and the driver. The silver Charger is said to have front end damage and the front windshield and back window are damaged.

If you have any information about the incident, call Broward County CrimeStoppers at (954) 493-TIPS(8477).
