Miami Dade College President Supports DREAM Act

MIAMI (CBS4) - Miami Dade College's president Eduardo Padron has joined in with those who support the White House's efforts to enact the DREAM Act.

During a conference call Friday, Padron said he hoped Florida Senator George LeMieux would change his mind and support the bill which offers a pathway to citizenship to the children of illegal immigrants who go to college or serve in the military.

LeMieux has said the federal government must first secure the border. It's unclear in any case whether the bill will come up for a vote in the lame-duck session.

Padron has fostered a close relationship with the White House, regularly conferring with top education officials on policy recommendations. Time magazine recently named him one of the 10 best college presidents in the United States.
