Weekend Construction On North TPK May Mean Delays

Turnpike motorists headed north from the Florida Keys and Homestead may experience traffic delays at the Homestead toll plaza this weekend, due to construction activities.

From 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, to approximately 1 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, both northbound Turnpike lanes will be closed approaching the SunPass-only, open road tolling gantry at the Homestead toll plaza, and traffic will be diverted through the SunPass and cash tollbooths.

Beginning at 1 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, one northbound, SunPass only, open road tolling lane will reopen and will remain open for the entire weekend through 6 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6. The SunPass and cash tollbooths will also remain open.
The weekend-long lane closure is needed to remove and replace the asphalt and concrete pavement underneath the tolling gantry.

The work is part of the ongoing construction project to convert the southern 47 miles of the Turnpike into an all-electronic open road tolling facility.

Electronic signs will be installed to advise drivers about the lane closure.

For more information, motorists may call 5-1-1 or visit www.fl511.com for updated traffic information, before they travel.
