Boxer's Husband Denied Bond In Assault Case

ORLANDO (AP)- An Orlando judge has denied bond for the husband of Christy Martin, who is accused of violently attacking the former women's boxing champion.

James Martin appeared in court on Saturday. His lawyer Doricia Rivas unsuccessfully asked the judge to set bond for the 66-year-old, whom she said was not in good health and not a dangerous person.

Deputies said Martin stabbed and shot the 42-year-old boxer during a fight at their house last week after she told him she was leaving him for a woman.

Martin was charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a weapon after being on the lam for almost a week. He was suffering from self-inflicted stab wounds when officers found and arrested him.

The sheriff's office said he is currently under psychological observation.
