Top Winter 2014-15 Art Events In South Florida

Art and South Florida have become almost synonymous thanks to the internationally acclaimed Art Basel and a slew of other art fairs each December. These art fairs feature works from the greatest local and international talents drawing collectors, socialites and public figures from around the globe. Works may be found in the visual arts, mixed media, performance art, special installations and more. South Florida continues to be the place to take in amazing art even after the fairs end in the abundant array of art galleries including the ever-changing, ever-evolving and ever-burgeoning Miami Design and Wynwood Art Districts.

The year 2014 ushers in the 25th edition of Art Miami in Midtown (Wynwood Arts District). The fair offers five days (six for VIPs) of incredible contemporary and modern international works. It's easy to spend a full day meandering and perusing the expansive pavilion filled with aesthetically pleasing and thought-provoking works including anything from hyper-realistic paintings and sculptures to performance art presentations and mixed media offerings. Last year's event welcomed 60,000 visitors to Art Miami.

The Miami River Art Fair returns for four days of wonderful art to Downtown Miami at the James L. Knight International Center inside of the Downtown Miami Convention Center. The sizable contemporary art fair features individual artists as well as galleries in addition to creating educational initiatives featuring arts and cultural institutions, art research and more. Exhibitions are on display in two halls – the 27,000-square-foot Riverfront Hall and the 10,000-square-foot outdoor Sculpture Mall on the banks of the Miami River. The Miami River Art Fair also serves the purpose of assisting with the revitalization efforts of the Lower Miami River area.
