Top Ways To Celebrate Earth Day In South Florida

On Wednesday, April 22, 2015, Earth Day Networks will celebrate its 45th annual series of "Earth Day." This worldwide event is designed to promote environmental protection. Home to some of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet including Everglades National Park and the Great Florida Reef, South Florida offers no shortage of activities intended to educate the public on sustainability and encourage green living not only on Earth Day but year-round.

To help celebrate Earth Day 2015, Vizcaya Museum & Gardens will be hosting "Earth Day Eve Celebration: Get Your Green On" on Tuesday, April 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. ET. This free event will take place at Vizcaya Village, located next to the Science Museum parking lot. Encouraged to RSVP, attendees can enjoy music and refreshments while networking with members of the Million Trees Miami campaign, which aims to plant one million trees in Miami-Dade County by the year 2020.

In North Miami, the "2015 Earth Day Clean-Up" initiative is yet another way for South Florida volunteers to show "Mother Earth" some love. Like most Earth Day 2015 activities, this one will also be held on Saturday, April 25. Keep in mind that registration gets underway at 8 a.m., followed by the actual clean-up which will take place from 9 a.m. until Noon. It's no secret that volunteers are the essential part of clean-up activities, and this event is open to all ages and is free of charge. Those looking to partake are encouraged to arrive and register half-hour before the event at 8:30 a.m. A parent or guardian must accompany minors wishing to volunteer.
