Top Spots For A Round Of Golf

You've got your clubs, spikes, tees, and balls, so where should you go to test out your swing? South Florida is a virtual golf mecca thanks to the superb weather and the sheer number of courses. But there are a few you must play if you're going to call yourself a golfer in South Florida.

Home of the famed "Blue Monster" course, if you're going to tangle with the course, make sure you can hit the long ball. The course is home to an annual PGA event in March that regularly features Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and a bevy of the world's top golfers. Also home to a spa to take the pain out of the muscles used when trying to reach the green.

The golf course was designed in 1925 by Donald Ross and is regularly played by movies stars, foreign dignitaries, and sports stars. The course was restored in 2007 by architect Brian Silva. And if you're in full "Caddyshack" mode, the course offers bag attendants and valet service every day. It's located in the heart of Coral Gables, but if you are looking to make reservations; make them early.

The golf resort has undergone a $150 million renovation, including $40 million specifically dedicated to the golf courses. Hall of Fame golfer Raymond Floyd redesigned the championship courses during the renovation. The Soffer & Miller courses offer a combined 36 holes and have hosted LPGA events. Get ready for the long ball again though, each course measure at least 6,417 yards.

The recently renovated Senator Course at Shula's Golf Club combines all the best of Florida including lakes, palm trees, and even a few sand traps here and there. It regularly hosts USGA events and is a permanent site for NCAA events. Plus, who knows more about a good golf game than a Hall of Fame winning ex-football coach?

Nothing says golf like the PGA, so it would just make sense that if you want to hit the links, to head to a place called PGA Village. The championship golf courses were designed by Tom Fazio and Pete Dye and are ranked among the "75 Best Golf Resorts" by Golf Digest. While a little bit of a drive from Miami and Fort Lauderdale, you will be treated to a top 50 golf course based on reader recommendations in GolfWorld magazine.
