Crandon Park offers one of the best beaches around for families. Crandon Beach has been ranked one of the Top 10 Beaches in the U.S. It has 2 miles of pristine sand, and beautiful calm water. A short stroll along the promenade takes you to the Amusement Center - a hub of activity with a carousel, outdoor roller rink, splash fountain, and playground. The park also features concession stands, picnic areas, various nature trails and tours, and kayaks and cabanas to rent. Be sure not to miss the gorgeous Crandon Park Gardens.

Equal parts beach, park & marina, Matheson Hammock is a great scenic park with an unusual feature, a man-made atoll pool, which is flushed naturally with the tidal action of nearby Biscayne Bay. Bring a blanket, bathing suits and lunch and hit the beach or the nature trails.

The beach extends from Hallandale Beach Boulevard to county-owned North Beach Park and about a half-mile short of Dania Beach Boulevard. Its adjacent 2.2-mile Broadwalk is crammed with cafes, bars, shops and its own band shell. There's also a sea turtle hatchery, part of the Endangered Sea Turtle Protection and Relocation Program.

Oleta River State Park is for natural lovers. It's a ready-made family getaway where kids can swim in the calm waters of Biscayne Bay. There are dozens of picnic tables, covered pavilions and a playground for tots. There are 15 miles of mountain-bike trails, a half-mile exercise track, concessions, and outdoor showers.
