“Ride Along” arrived in first place at the weekend box office.
The Academy Awards appear to be the three-horse race many expected it would be, with “Gravity,” ”American Hustle” and “12 Years a Slave” all receiving a heap of nominations.
The Golden Globes are typically Hollywood’s bawdiest awards show — “a wonderful mess,” said co-host Tina Fey of this year’s bash. But in the end, after all the boozy banter — some of it bleeped for broadcast — the 1970s corruption tale “American Hustle” got a very serious push toward Oscar glory, picking up three major awards.
“Lone Survivor” triumphed at the weekend box office.
Disney’s “Frozen” stayed warm despite frigid weekend temperatures across much of the country, regaining the top spot at the box office with $19.6 million in its seventh week of release.
“The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” continued to top the box office, landing at No. 1 over the Christmas holiday for the third weekend in a row.
