Gay rights activists in Florida believe the United States Supreme Court on Monday sealed the deal for same sex marriage in the state.
The Key West same-sex couple who filed a lawsuit in Monroe County to be allowed to marry is asking the Third District Court of Appeal to fast track their case to Florida’s Supreme Court.
Agreeing with another judge in the Keys who made a similar ruling last week, a Miami judge overturned Florida’s ban on same-sex marriage in a ruling that applies to Miami-Dade County Friday.
Miami-Dade circuit judge Sarah Zabel was expected to announce Wednesday if the adoptive parents of murdered 10-year old Nubia Barahona would be be tried separately. Instead, she issued a notice that her ruling will be delayed until the state’s case is ready to go to trial.
The attorney for the adoptive father of murdered 10-year Nubia Barahona filed a motion in court Tuesday asking the judge to have separate trials for Jorge and Carmen Barahona.
