A Miami-Dade police officer was slightly hurt early New Years day after the DUI enforcement unit she was using was hit by another driver. That driver, whose name has not been released, has been charged in the accident.

Drunk driving is unfortunately a constant reality in South Florida. The crashes drunk drivers cause are sometimes deadly, but thanks to the work of those at the Ryder Trauma Center many people live. Some of those survivors paid tribute to the hospital staff Wednesday.

3 Miami police officers, patrolling on bicycles as part of a certification class, have been sent to the hospital after they were struck by a car Thursday on US1. The highway was closed while the accident was investigated, but has since reopened.
