Dade County Calls For External Police Probes

Miami Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez wants the county’s police department to turn over investigations of its police-involved shootings to the state. Gimenez wrote last week in a memo to Miami Dade County Police Director J.D. Patterson that he also wants the state to investigate deaths of people in police custody.

Source: Two Men Killed In Wild Shootout Were Not Armed

A Miami-Dade police officer remains hospitalized after he and two other officers were shot in the pursuit of a man who attempted to rob a Walgreens early Tuesday morning. That incident led police on a wild chase, and ended in a wild shootout which killed the suspect and his passenger.

Friend Of Man At Center Of Police Shootout “He Had An Addiction”

A man who died in a hail of police gunfire after he allegedly shot a Miami-Dade officer who tried to arrest him for an attempted robbery at a Walgreens was reportedly struggling with drug addiction.

PBA President On Shootings: “It Could Have Been A Whole Lot Worse”

The President of the Miami-Dade police union is thankful several South Florida officers survived a violent morning with a gun-toting criminal and when the gunfire settled, six police officers were hospitalized and two suspects were dead.
