Nesting Sea Turtles
2014 was a good year for turtle nesting across the Sunshine State. The number of loggerhead turtle nests remained high and the number of leatherback turtle nests reached a record.
Storm surges from Superstorm Sandy and Tropical Storm Debbie last year combine with seasonal high tides caused erosion on many of the state’s beaches.
Just a few years ago, Florida’s beloved loggerhead sea turtles were in a population slump. Not this year.
