Miami Beach Mayor
Monday was swearing in day for businessman turned politician Philip Levine as Miami Beach’s new mayor. The mayor’s job was Levine’s first run for political office and he won with a hard fought campaign against sitting commissioner Michael Gongora and comedian Steve Berke.
The voters have spoken in Miami Beach as to who they would like as their next mayor but the result is too close to call. Philip Levine came out on top with 5,630 votes or 50.48 percent of the vote. He needed 50.5 percent of the vote to win the election outright.
A man running for mayor in Tuesday’s election in Miami Beach has been aggravated assault and battery charges.
Despite a series of controversies which had threatened the re-election bid of Mayor Matti Herrera Bower, voters on the beach returned her comfortably to office Tuesday, as she beat three challengers while holding almost 60% of the vote.
