Inaugural Poet, Richard Blanco, read his poem “One Today” at the ceremonial swearing-in ceremony of President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.
Former Miami resident Richard Blanco has had his voice heard at President Barack Obama’s second inauguration as he became the first Hispanic inaugural poet. He is also the first openly gay one to read a verse at the occasion and at the age of 44, he is also the youngest.
In roughly two weeks, Richard Blanco will read a poem before millions worldwide at President Barack Obama’s second inauguration. When he does, he will be making history three times over: as the youngest poet, who is openly gay, and a Cuban-American.
