A former Miami Beach police officer on trial for crashing his department-issued ATV and seriously injuring two people while impaired was found guilty of reckless driving Monday.
The defense began its case Wednesday in the trial of a former Miami Beach police officer charged with four felonies after he was involved in an ATV crash on South Beach which seriously injured two people.
An attorney for former Miami Beach Police Derek Kuilan said he has obtained new surveillance tape from the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office that is a significant development in this case.
An internal affairs probe of the Miami Beach Police force launched after one of their officers crashed his ATV into two people on the beach reportedly found a number of problems including a breakdown in command and gross negligence by some officers over the July 4th holiday weekend.
