Netherlands Beats Costa Rica 4-3 With Penalty Kicks

Tim Krul came on as a substitute in the final minute of extra time and then saved two penalties in a 4-3 shootout victory over Costa Rica on Saturday, giving the Netherlands a spot in the World Cup semifinals.

Costa Rica Hangs On To Beat Greece In Shootout

With his team down to 10 men for nearly an hour, Keylor Navas made sure Costa Rica’s last line of defense held firm. The goalkeeper came through with a string of stops in regulation and extra time and then made the only save in a penalty shootout to send Costa Rica through to the World Cup quarterfinals on Sunday with a win over Greece.

Costa Rica And Greece Battle For Spot In Quarterfinals

This World Cup just got a whole lot easier for Costa Rica. According to the rankings, anyway. Having left former champions Uruguay, Italy and England behind to sensationally win their group – one of the toughest at the World Cup – the Costa Ricans line up against their lowest-ranked opposition so far in Greece in the second round on Sunday.

Costa Rica Advances To Round Of 16 With 1-0 Win Over Italy

Costa Rica followed up its surprise win over Uruguay with another World Cup stunner on Friday, beating four-time champion Italy 1-0 to secure a spot in the next round and eliminate England in the process.
