Guide To Art Basel Miami Beach

Buckle up art lovers! The most prestigious art show in the Americas takes place on Miami Beach through Sunday, December 4, 2011. Visitors will enjoy works from more than 260 art galleries from North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa. That's work from 2,000 artists all displayed over one extended weekend! As a 10th anniversary gift to us "Basel lovers," this year features a free Art Public display area at Collins Park.  The best part? This is only one of many free public viewings for the multi-day event. Whether an art aficionado or a simple art lover, this event will make anyone fall in love with art all over again.

 Public Show Days

Thursday, Dec, 1st through Sunday, Dec. 4th
Daily from noon to 8pm, Sunday until 6 p.m.

Venues

Art Basel events will be held throughout Miami Beach and at the Miami Beach Convention Center. For events at the convention center, the entrance will either be on Washington Avenue (Hall B) or Convention Center Drive (Hall D).

Admission

One-Day Ticket $40
Permanent Pass $85
Evening Ticket (valid from 4 p.m.) $28
Reduced One-Day Ticket (Students with ID, Senior Citizens aged 62 and above, Groups of 10 or more) $23

Tickets can be purchased at The Colony Theatre, located at 1040 Lincoln Road, from Tues-Sat from 12-5 p.m. For those who prefer to buy in advance, tickets are available online at Ticketmaster.

Transportation

 By Car

Parking is available at the Miami Beach Convention Center and at the lot across the street. If you don't mind walking a block, there is also a parking garage located on 17th street.

Public Transportation

For those opting to walk, there is a shuttle bus service compliments of the show. The pickup is directly across the street from Hall D of the Miami Beach Convention Center.

Events

Art Basel is not just for those who love their artwork on canvas. With more variety in this year's show, Art Basel is offering events like Art Film, Art Basel Conversations, Art Salon and Art Video Nights.

Art Film
Dec. 2
8:30 p.m.
For movie buffs, Corinna Belz will have the U.S. premiere of her film Gerhard Richter Painting. The screening will be followed by a Q & A session.  Interested? The screening will be at the Colony Theater located at 1040 Lincoln Road. The best part is that the event is free! Seats are limited so get there early.

Art Basel Conversations
These events will be offered daily throughout the Art Basel weekend. The conversations will be open to everyone and they're free! Expect to hear leading personalities of the international art world talk and debate about different aspects of collecting and the exhibition of art.

Art Salon
With the purchase of a general admission ticket you can enjoy a more intimate encounter with various artists, curators, academics, authors, critics and other industry players. The Art Salon events offer a more in depth perspective on various aspects of the art world. Learn more about the industry and its players with various presentations, panel discussions, book signings and lectures. The salon will be open throughout the event in Hall D.

Art Video Nights
Movie aficionados can enjoy the nice Miami weather along with a film at Art Video Nights. The outdoor screenings at the New World Center will be showing a total of six programs featuring various short films. Each themed program will show films themed to a chosen topic.

ArtKids

Art Basel is not just for adult art lovers! The show provides a day care center during the public show days. Kids enrolled in the program will participate in various arts and crafts activities, storytelling and art history. Your little Picasso's will be under the supervision of The Miami Dade Children's Museum staff.
