Cities across the United States are marking the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks by donating their time, spending time with family and friends, dedicating the day to those who serve the U.S. and honoring and remembering the victims of 9/11. Many events across South Florida are held on various days to commemorate the 10th Anniversary, which is on Sunday.

The City of Doral, in collaboration with PARK Project, presents first annual event that commemorates the lives lost during the 9/11 attacks and solemnly observe its' 10th anniversary.

Run, jog or walk alongside military personnel, veterans and first responders in appreciation of their sacrifices and commitment to service; 7 a.m. to noon on Saturday. $30, free for spectators, register by 2 p.m. Friday.

In commemoration of the 10th anniversary of 9/11, the museum presents an exhibition of photographs taken by the only photographer granted right of entry into Ground Zero after the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City.

For nine months during the day and night, Meyerowitz photographed "the pile," as the World Trade Center came to be known, and the over 800 people a day that were working in it. The exhibition consists of 24, recently-donated photographs, presented in the Focus Gallery section of the Museum's Permanent Collection installation. The gallery will be open until November 6.

The Knights of Columbus, #3757, Marian Council, will be holding a memorial service for the victims of September 11, 2001 at their lodge on Sunday, September 11 at 12 noon.  The event is free and open to the public.

The non-denominational service will be led by Father Jude, Council Chaplain, and will include a special "World Day of Prayer for Peace" in remembrance of the 9/11 victims.

The Knights of Columbus World Day of Prayer for Peace seeks to unite people of good will regardless of their religious faith in prayer for peace.

While Sept. 11 will always be remembered for the tragic loss of life, Knights hope that this somber occasion will be the foundation of an annual opportunity for a day of earnest prayer for peace in the world. The service is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served

Each year NYC shuts down the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel on the last Sunday of September as around thirty thousand New Yorkers retrace the footsteps of Stephen Siller. To this day the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers foundation has raised more than $10 million. The foundation exists as an example of our ability to turn tragedy into triumph.

On Sunday, Sept. 11, at 9 p.m., Bob Pressner with Raina Murnack will be showcasing music from their "Honor Among Thieves" CD in honor and memory of those lost in the attacks. Music will be showcased at Stage 84.

Bob Pressner was a World Trade Center Commodities Trader who survived. He remembers the sickness from breathing the residue of the debris and today is able to sing his music while honoring his very own life and those close to him as a remembrance of that day.

Entrance to this event is $5 and all proceeds from this concert will go to the Red Cross.

Fort Lauderdale Fire and Safety Museum's 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

From 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. a brief remembrance ceremony will take place on Sunday, Sept. 11.

Everyone is invited to attend and is asked to dress comfortably and that uniformed personnel wear "Class A" dress uniform. If it rains, the ceremony will be moved indoors.

Mayor Susan Whelchel and Deputy Mayor Susan Haynie are among the speakers at "Celebrate Freedom," from noon to 4 p.m. with the school band playing The National Anthem.

The outdoor event will have tents and chairs, and will also include free food and beverages, craft vendors, a bounce house, a fire truck and a bloodmobile.

Wellington 9/11 Remembrance Weekend

On September 11, 2011, National Patriot Day, Wellington and the Fire Chief's Association of Palm Beach County will honor the victims of the September 11, 2001. The three days of events will culminate with a Remembrance Ceremony and the dedication of Wellington's Patriot Memorial, which includes a section of steel from the World Trade Center.

A number of activities and events will take place from Friday, September 9 to Sunday, September 11, including the First Annual "Honor Our Heroes" Golf Tournament, the Jeff Annas Memorial 5K Run, a free concert, Parade of Heroes and , 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony.

Residents can also enjoy free admission to the Wellington Aquatics Complex from Friday, September 9th through Sunday, September 11th.

The heroes and victims of 2001's Sept. 11 terror attacks are to be remembered on the 10th anniversary of the tragedy at the soon-to-be-opened Key West Fire House Museum.

The memorial is set for 6 p.m. at Old Fire House No. 3 at the corner of Virginia and Grinnell streets. The historic fire station, which operated from 1907 until 1998, is one of the oldest in Florida.

The event was conceived to remember those who died in the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and honor those who currently serve to protect Americans' security. Special guests are to include members of the New York City and Key West fire departments, law enforcement officers, honor guards, veterans and local officials.

Planned highlights include New York City firefighters' presentation of two pieces of the World Trade Center towers to the museum and Key West Fire Department. Also scheduled are a moment of silence, a donation by a local sheriff's deputy and the viewing of a video that chronicles the creation and presentation of a Key West art memorial in New York City following the tragedy.

Attendees also can take a guided tour of the Key West Fire House Museum, which is projected to open in early 2012.

The Sept. 11 memorial event is free and open to the public.

Growing Hope Initiative

9/11 has been designated a National Day of Service and Remembrance in the Keys. The Growing Hope Initiative is organizing community service projects in the Keys, in partnership with other groups and residents over the course of the entire week, September 11 to 17. The Week of Service has a local food theme that culminated with two community potlucks.

On Sunday, Glad Tidings will host a 9/11 Tree Planting Memorial Service at Glad Tidings Community Church located at  1209 United St at 12 p.m.

All service projects are free and open to the public.
