Just saw your report on income tax fraud in south Florida. I, too, am a victim. I found out last February about the fraud. I wrote to Obama, Bill Nelson, and Marco Rubio’s offices for help. Rubio answer pretty quickly and referred my case to a congressional tax advocate. Whereas the IRS told me it would take 2 years for my refund, it only took until August. I found out later that Obama’s office sent my file to the same tax advocate. Nelson didn’t help. One of students waited a year for her refund. I am terrified of filing next year because someone already has my tax ID info. Tell tax payers to write to their politicians. PS. An IRS rep told me that the IRS has yet to close out all of the fraud cases from 2010! If you want the tax advocate information, write back. Thanks for covering this important issue.
