I have a bag filled with CFL's- I know they are toxic, can the County take them on Recycling Day?

I’m sure that like myself, many people don’t have the time to go to a recycling center and the lightbulbs might end up in the trash- I’ve read that they have mercury. Shouldn’t the county make it easier to get them disposed correctly? Perhaps provide us with a special container for batteries and CFL’s that can be picked up 3 or 4 times per year?

  1. Recycling will not pick up Compact Fluorescent Lights. Fluorescents contain a small amount of mercury and can’t be thrown out with the regular trash. Miami-Dade residents can bring them to one of the county’s Home Chemical Collection Centers. Some retailers will also take them. Broward County considers them hazardous waste, and takes them in 2 locations open every Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Pompano Beach — 2780 N. Powerline Rd. (north of Copans Rd.)
West Park — 5601 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd. (east of US 441)
