The Miami Daily News Building (aka as the “freedom tower”) was the News Paper’s headquarters until it moved to a building on the Miami River. The building was vacant for several years and was used by the INS for processing the Cuban refugees who were admitted as political refugees and expected to return back to Cuba after Castro was overthrown or died. That is how the “freedom tower” came to be known.
