Man Wanted For Getting Into Scuffle With Deputy At BurgerFi

DEERFIELD BEACH (CBSMiami) – Broward deputies have identified a man they say got into a scuffle with one of their deputies at a burger joint Monday night.

It happened at around 8 p.m. while the Broward Sheriff's Office deputy was on foot patrol at a plaza in the 2000 block of NE 2nd Street.

The manager of a BurgerFi asked the deputy to assist with removing an unruly customer from the business. The customer apparently became combative and got into a scuffle with the deputy.

CBS4 obtained cell phone video of the fight.

In it you see the young man walking away from the restaurant with the deputy close behind.

The deputy pepper sprays the teenager and orders him to the ground.

When he refuses, a scuffle begins with the deputy and teen falling and crashing into an outdoor table.

Then they roll into the street with fists flailing.

At the end of the cell phone video, you see the teen punch the deputy and run away.

After the brawl, arriving deputies set up a large perimeter, but the man was nowhere to be found.

"I'm upset that he attacked an officer and he got away," said area resident Robert Hamza.

On Tuesday, BSO said they had identified the young man and have a warrant out for his arrest. He is being charged with Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer.

A friend of the teen tells CBS4 he is 17 years old and attends high school in Boca Raton.

"I think he needs to spend the night in you know where, apologize, do community service, and get a nice size fine," said Nonette Reardon who is visiting Deerfield beach
