MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Firefighters made quick work of a house fire in northwest Miami-Dade.

Chopper4 over the scene spotted flames and smoke coming from under the roof of the home at 9395 NW 8th Avenue as fire engulfed the residence.

The family who lives there was barely able to escape, their dog did not make it.

"I can't believe we lost everything," said Luis Perez who watched the fire in shock and disbelief.

"I seen a red glow and then when I stood up I went out in the hallway, my hair started to feel funny and I seen the fire," said Nancy Cahrier. "I screamed and we got my daughter and I got my husband out. But I didn't get nothing else."

Perez and Cahrier said they had no idea what sparked the fire.

"I don't know, we were sleeping and I woke up because I smelled something funny and,,," said Cahrier.

"Now we lost everything. We don't even have nowhere to live," said Perez.

"I got my family out, but that's it. I didn't get nothing else," said Cahrier.

"The dog. Everything is dead inside," said Perez.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the other half of the duplex, Cahrier said she warned them.

"I knocked on the window of the people next door to me so that they would all get out," said Cahrier. "I didn't want nobody else hurt."

They got out safely. Perez said they had just paid their monthly rent so now they're trying to figure out where they can stay and how they'll get by.
