NORTH MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade Police are investigating a confrontation in North Miami Beach that left two suspected burglars injured – one shot and one bitten.

Officers say they were called out to a home off NE 151st Street and 13th Avenue around 11:30 a.m. after the homeowner was alerted that someone was trying to burglarize his home.

Miami-Dade Police said the homeowner had some type of monitoring system and that's how he knew two men were inside the house.

Once North Miami Beach police arrived, they spotted the suspects in a black Chrysler outside the home.

They say shots were fired and the 20-year-old driver was struck in his upper body.

The 33-year-old passenger ran off, but was caught after he was bitten by a North Miami Beach Police K9.

Chopper4 was over the scene as the men were taken away in an ambulance.

Police said the monitoring system was crucial in helping them catch the burglars.

"It was a system that it alerts them whether it's on your phone or it's on your PC. It alerts you when an intruder is coming into your house. And this is the kind of technology that we've obviously been trying to pass on to your community, to community service and to crime watch system that when you do have this type of help, tools, it can just further protect your property," Det. Alvaro Zabaleta with Miami-Dade Police.

Late Monday night, police identified the suspects as 20-year-old Dwanaunne Antonio Williams and 33-year-old Olajuwon Baker.

They say both men are listed in stable condition.

The officers who responded were not hurt.
