POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) – Human remains discovered in a wooded area in Pompano Beach prompted an investigation Friday.

At around noon, Chopper4 was over the scene as Broward Sheriff's deputies were seen near the wooded area located at West Copans Road and Blount Road.

The discovery surprised people who work in the area.

"It seems strange to me," said Jeff Ostroff. "How would you find a body? How would anybody have found it? Who would have been back there?"

It turns out Fort Lauderdale police, along with BSO's K-9 unit, were in the woods specifically looking for a woman missing from Fort Lauderdale since December.

Posters were up in the area for people to be on the lookout for her.

It was about 11:40 a.m. when law officers made the find.

Throughout the day, detectives pulled evidence from the area.

Investigators, who describe finding mostly bones, said there is no obvious sign of foul play.

There are reports of  homeless people living in and around that wooded area.
