What The World, & Miami Searched For In 2016

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – What a year it's been! Wednesday, Google released its 'Year in Search 2016' which reveals the most popular topics the world has been searching for.

Politics, celebrity deaths, and sporting events definitely dominated the list.

In overall global searches, Pokémon Go was the most searched-for topic this year. Any surprise there? The augmented reality game was followed by iPhone 7 in second place, then Donald Trump, Prince and Powerball.

In global news, the U.S. election was the biggest topic, followed by the Olympics, Brexit, the Orlando shooting and the Zika virus outbreak.

Under losses, Prince was the most searched person, then David Bowie, Christina Grimmie, Alan Rickman and Muhammad Ali.

In the TV shows category, Stranger Things is the show Googled the most, followed by Westworld, Luke Cage, Game of Thrones and Black Mirror.

In the movies category, superheroes were a hit. Deadpool topped that category followed by Suicide Squad, The Revenant, Captain America Civil War and Batman v. Superman.

Céline Dion was the most searched-for musician followed by Kesha, Michael Buble and Creed.

In Miami, Google's top trending searches were Hurricane Matthew, Powerball, David Bowie, Prince and Euro 2016.

Top Trending People in Miami were Donald Trump, Michael Phelps, El Chapo, Hillary Clinton and Steven Avery.

The top trending "Near Me" items were Cuban restaurants (near me), Tanning Salons (near me) and Irish Pubs (near me).
