HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – Hollywood police say they are on the hunt for a killer who shot a man and left him for dead in an alleyway.

The shooting occurred around 4 p.m. Wednesday near Washington Street and Dixie Highway.

Hollywood police and K-9 units scoured the streets around the area, questioning residents and bystanders and searching for clues and surveillance video.

A nearby business owner, Ali, said he spoke to the victim earlier in the morning. He said the victim often hung around the area.

"We see him almost every day," Ali said. "He's a gentleman. He's nice people. Things happen, though."

Police have released few details.

They say they don't know the motive for the murder and they have not released a description of the shooter.

They will only say that the killer fled on foot.

But they do know that the person who pulled the trigger needs to be caught.

"This is somebody who the police department considers armed and potentially dangerous so for the public safety we'd like to bring this individual into custody," said Hollywood Police Spokesperson Jaime Hernandez.

And for people who knew the victim, it's sad news.

"It don't make no sense to see somebody on the ground like that," Ali said.

Police have not released the victim's identity.

If you have any information about this shooting or the shooter, contact Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
