NEW YORK (CBSMiami) - President-elect Donald Trump met with outgoing North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory at Trump Tower on Wednesday as he continues to fill positions in his administration.

The meeting comes just a day after Trump traveled to Gov. McCrory's home state for another stop on his 'Thank You' tour. During the event in Fayetteville, the president-elect vowed to fight terrorism.

"It's unseen in many cases but we're going to defeat that force and we're going to defeat it strongly and quickly," said Trump.

Trump again promised to make America safe again.

"We don't want countries taking advantage of us anymore," he told a supportive crowd. "We don't want to be what we've been over the last long period of time."

The comments were seen as a veiled jab at the policies of President Barack Obama.

Speaking before a service members at MacDill Air Force base in Tampa on Tuesday, Mr. Obama took aim at his successor without naming him.

"People and nations do not make good decisions when they are driven by fear," said Obama.

To accomplish his national security goals, the president-elect formally tapped retired Marine General James Mattis as his Defense Secretary. He'll need a need a congressional waiver to accept the post.

"He'll get that waiver, right? Oh, if he didn't get that waiver there are going to be a lot of angry people," said Trump.

Unlike Mattis, Trump's pick for national security adviser, retired Lieutenant General Michael Flynn would not require Senate confirmation.

On Tuesday, Trump's transition team fired Flynn's son for using Twitter to spread a fake news story about Hillary Clinton. The so-called "pizzagate" conspiracy led to an armed confrontation at a Washington D.C. pizzeria over the weekend.

Trump is scheduled to make stops in Iowa and Michigan this week as part of his 'Thank You' tour.
