MIAMI (CBSMiami) – After a mostly-successful first season under a new head coach, the Miami Hurricanes won't have to travel very far for their bowl game.

On Sunday it was announced that the Hurricanes would travel to Orlando and face the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Russell Athletic Bowl.

"I could not be more excited for our program to represent the ACC at the Russell Athletic Bowl," said Miami Athletics Director Blake James. "The staff at the Russell Athletic Bowl is truly committed to putting on a first-class event. The city of Orlando is a familiar bowl destination for our program and I know it is a location that our student-athletes, coaches, fans, alumni and donors will thoroughly enjoy."

The game will take place on Wednesday, December 28th at Camping World Stadium. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.

Miami opened the season with four straight wins and closed the season the same way, finishing with an 8-4 record.

"The Russell Athletic Bowl will be an outstanding opportunity for our team," said Miami head coach Mark Richt. "Orlando is a fantastic city, has a great stadium and will provide a tremendous challenge to compete against a quality opponent like West Virigina. It's also a great spot for our fans to enjoy their bowl experience. We are looking forward to our week in Orlando."

At one point the Hurricanes were ranked No. 10 in the country before losing by one point to Florida State.

The Canes defense has been one of the best in the country under first year coordinator Manny Diaz.

Miami holds an all-time record of 16-3 against West Virginia. The two teams played annually from 1991 to 2003 when they were members of the Big East Conference.

This is the fourth straight year that the Hurricanes will play in a bowl game.
