Mother Says Daycare Lied, Called Baby's Burns A 'Fever'

BELLE GLADE (CBSMiami) -- A central Florida mother is taking legal action after she said her baby was burned at a daycare center and staff failed to call for help.
11-month-old Nathaniel suffered second degree burns when boiling liquid from a bottle warmer fell onto him at the Heart to Heart Learning Center in Belle Glade, according to CBS12. The severe burns left the skin on the right side of his face, shoulder and arm blistered and peeling.
His mother, Estania Eloi, was shocked because she said that staff didn't dial 911 and instead, lied to her, saying the baby simply had a fever when he was picked up.
Nathaniel was taken to a local hospital, then airlifted to Jackson Memorial Burn Center in Miami. He has since recovered and is doing fine.
Now Eloi is filing a lawsuit to make sure it doesn't happen to another child.
An attorney representing the family said the daycare failed to follow standard safety measures, which includes handling babies around the hot bottle warmers as well as not getting Nathaniel immediate help.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Children and Families are investigating the incident as an accident.
