Zookeepers gave "Satu" some "unique enrichment items" for him to explore and play with on Thursday, as dozens of guests gathered around the exhibit.

Satu was born in November 2015 to first time mother "Leeloo" and first time father "Berani."

Zoo staff needed to supplement Satu's feedings early on due to his Leeloo's inexperience as a mother, which "played an invaluable role in enabling him to survive the initial months of his life," park staff said.

The tiger cub grew from about 2 pounds at birth to more than 100 pounds a year later.

Less than 500 Sumatran tigers are believed to exist in the wild, found on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. They're the smallest subspecies of tiger, with males growing to about 300 pounds and females reaching 200 pounds.

70 Sumatran tigers live in the U.S.
