MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Teenagers who binge drink may be affecting more than themselves - their future children, according to a new study.

Doctors at Loyola University says teens who binge drink may be putting the brain function of their future children at risk.

The research found binge drinking can alter the genes in their brain; therefore, altering their offspring's genes - putting them at risk of depression, anxiety, and metabolic disorders.

The study was conducted on rats which metabolise alcohol in a similar way to humans.
