Botched Car Dealership Burglary Lands Three People In Jail

HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) - An overnight break-in at a Hollywood car dealership did't go quite as planned for a group of hoodie wearing would-be thieves.

Surveillance video from the dealership at 2200 North Federal Highway shows several individuals staying behind as 'look outs' as three people break into the building and go straight for the box that holds the keys.

As they grab handfuls of keys, an alarm sounded which scared them off. Moments later they returned and try to steal a Ford Mustang and two Chevy Chargers.

"They were gonna try to crash through this fence. They hit a couple of cars here," said Tony Asmar of Modern Auto Sales.

The would be car thieves ended bailing out as the police arrived.

"Luckily Hollywood Police showed up at the exact right moment, exact right time," said Asmar.

Three suspects were caught right away, a police K-9 sniffed out one of them.

In the seven years at that location, Asmar said nothing like that has ever happened at his dealership. He added that he knows other dealers who have been hit in the same manner, like one last month in Ft. Lauderdale where the thieves did smash through the fence and got away with five high end cars.

"Thank God, luckily they didn't get away this time," said Asmar.

The three people arrested were all juveniles. They've been charged with grand theft and burglary.
