ORLANDO (CBSMiami/AP) — The customer is always right, and sometimes so is the employee.

The U.S. Department of Labor says a Florida plastic recycler will pay $424,537 in back wages to 195 employees for violating overtime and record-keeping provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

In a news release issued Monday, the agency says Ravago Americas LLC paid workers fixed salaries based upon a 40-hour workweek regardless of how many hours they actually worked.

If employees performed work before or after their shifts or during their lunch breaks, the hours weren't recorded or paid for.

Ravago signed an agreement with the agency that requires the company to install an accurate time-keeping system to capture the start and end times for each employee.

It will also perform training with all employees on proper procedures for clocking in an dout.
