MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A Miami-Dade woman's fight to keep the treehouse she calls home continues.

Shawnee Chasser is a bit of celebrity on Facebook, receiving attention from national and international media.

While friends and fans love Chasser's eclectic property and treehouse near North Miami Avenue and NE 135th Street, Miami-Dade County says it's not safe and the tree house needs to come down.

"We've been trying to appease them at every level," Chasser said.

She's working with the city, negotiating on what really needs to be done, but there's confusion.

For instance, she was told by code enforcement that she needs a fence around her pond.

"I had people give me an estimate and they came and said if you have a perimeter fence around your property, you do not need a fence around your pond," Chasser said.

There's a lot that needs to be done and it's going to cost a lot of money.

Friday evening, she invited her fans to see her property and hear her story.

"Just supporting the purple-haired grandma," said Sol Ruiz.

The hope is she'll get enough financial help to comply with code, so she's opening up her home to the public and they're opening up their wallets.

"Eeverybody's reaching out and I do feel like the luckiest person in the world. I went from crying for a year and a half and having sad tears to now I have happy tears," Chasser said.
