MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The family of a 23-year-old man who is in urgent need of medical attention has offered a reward for information on his whereabouts.

For nine days, Josue Latortue has felt helpless.

His brother, Jephthe Latortue, had a mental breakdown. He started having hallucinations, and then he just disappeared.

"We're concerned about his state of mind, you know," Josue Latortue said. "He might, he might potentially be very confused."

Jephthe left his home on October 14 at around 9 p.m.

His family said he suffers from a medical condition that has made him confused and disoriented.

One of their biggest fears is that Jephthe will be taken advantage of.

They said he's not street smart and left the house with only $20 and no working cellphone.

"Never used alcohol. Never used drugs. He's unfamiliar with the streets and we're really concerned about him because of the medical condition that he developed just prior to him leaving," said private investigator David Bolton.

The family hired Bolton to find Jephthe. Bolton believes the 23-year-old could be in the downtown Miami, Wynwood or Design District areas.

"We've had a search party of church members and family and friends looking for him in the past, I guess, the past week," Josue Latortue said.

Jephthe is 5' 5" and weighs 130 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, black shirt, black shoes and carrying a violet colored backpack and blue umbrella.

The family is offering a reward of up to $1,500 for information that will lead police to him.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Miami Police at (305) 579-6111.
