Clinton Looks Beyond Trump As Election Nears

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - In addition to campaigning on her own behalf, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is hoping to help Democrats take control of Congress.

On Monday, the former First Lady will campaign in Democratic leaning New Hampshire which will likely vote for her. The state is also home to a tight Senate race between Democratic Governor Maggie Hassan and incumbent Republican Senator Kelly Ayotte.

The Clinton campaign feels comfortable trying to help Congressional candidates because recent polls show her lead over Republican nominee Donald Trump expanding.

"All over the country, I'm going to tell you, we're seeing evidence that this could be a very big and historic win for Hillary Clinton," her running mate Tim Kaine told a fired up crowd in Gainesville over the weekend.

Trump's biggest problem in the polls is the gender gap. An ABC News Poll released Sunday shows Trump with a 20 point deficit with female voters.

"I actually think we're winning and what they do is show these phony polls where they look at Democrats, and it's heavily weighted with Democrats," said Trump when informed of the results. "Like the ABC phony poll which just came out, totally phony poll."

Campaigning in Florida on Monday, Trump said the polls are part of the problem.

"This is part of the crooked system, part of the rigged system which I've been talking about since I entered the race," he said.

Trump's message is resonating with his voters. The CBS News Battleground Tracker poll found more than 80 percent of Republicans in Florida and Texas agree that voter fraud is a problem. Of those, eight in ten feel Trump would win if the system was fair.

Over the weekend, Trump picked up his first major newspaper endorsement. The Las Vegas Journal-Review, which is owned by Republican super-donor Sheldon Adelson, said Trump is the right choice to shake up Washington, DC.
