MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade police are looking for leads in the murder of a 15-year-old boy.

Johnny Lubin was gunned down while walking home from school on November 18th, 2015.

The shooting happened shortly before 4:00 p.m. at NW 77th St. and 14th Ave.

The scene of the shooting is not far from North Park – located at 2181 NW 74 St. – where police started handing out flyers Wednesday in hopes of finding new leads.

Julie Examar, Lubin's mother, said she has no idea who would want to harm her son.

"He was a very outgoing kid. He loved to play football. Everybody loved him," she said.

Police said Lubin's story is especially heartbreaking. He was a good kid doing well at Miami Northwestern Senior High School.

Examar mourns the loss of her son to what she calls foolish acts.

"Right now we just trying to cope and try to do something positive. Especially, we try to be proactive in our community just to stop the gun violence because we are losing too much of our young teens," she said. "We, as a community, we need to stand together and do something about it."

Examar went door-to-door with police on what would have been her son's 16th birthday.

To this day, detectives have no idea who shot him or the motive of the shooting.

If you have information about the shooting, contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
