Day Care Owner Arrested Following Death Of Toddler Left In Van

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Police have arrested the owner of a daycare center after a child died from being left in a transport van outside the building.

Karen Aviles, owner of Vision For Life Academy, was arrested on Saturday.

She has been charged with aggravated manslaughter.

Two-year-old Angel Matute Chavez was found unresponsive last Wednesday and later pronounced dead upon arrival at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

An autopsy on the child revealed that he died of heat stroke.

It is unknown how long Chavez was left in the van.

Vision For Life was shut down on Thursday by the Florida Department of Children and Families.

Prior to her arrest, 36-year-old Aviles surrendered her state license to operate the business.
