MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- The wife of Vice President Joe Biden plans on visiting Cuba next month.

Dr. Jill Biden will travel to the Cuban cities of Havana and Camaguey from October 6th to the 9th.

She'll be joined by Catherine M. Russell - the United States Ambassador-at-large for Global Women's Issues  and Evan Ryan - the United States Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs.

The group plans to meet with government officials and talk with Cubans about their cultural, health and education situation.

From there, Biden and Russell will travel to Dominican Republic from October 9 to the 10th. There they are scheduled to talk with government and civil society partners about economic and educational opportunities for women and girls.

Biden's trip comes on the heels of President Barack Obama's family trip to Cuba in March where he met with Cuban leader Raul Castro and spoke to the Cuban people amid renewed relations between the U.S. and Cuba.
