MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Outside Marlins Park, fans continue to bring flowers, light candles and write their condolences on a wall.
"It's a shame, you know, that he's not here anymore because I think the game needs more role models like he was," said Mets fan Bill Crowe.
Jose Fernandez's story is one of kind, and yet many feel his story is their story.
"Fernandez is already a fairytale, you know. He's already a story that parents tell their children. Particularly, immigrant parents, particularly, Cuban-American parents," said filmmaker Billy Corben.
Corben, who produced one of the most watched sports documentaries on ESPN, teased fans with a tweet.
"What if I told you Jose Fernandez is the greatest 30 for 30 never told. Yet."
"It's one that we've been tracking for a long time and we always hoped that we would do a 30 for 30 on him in 20 or 30 years, you know, long after he retired as the superstar everybody knew he would be," Corben told CBS4's Tiani Jones.
But fans' reactions to the possibility of showing the world Fernandez's story immediately have been overwhelming.
"It would be good for the people that don't know him well," said Marlins Luis Calvo.
And maybe it's just what Miami needs to heal.
"He's like Miami's James Dean now, you know. You have this tragic life of this budding superstar cut short," Corben said. "I think that having the opportunity to kind of put him into perspective and tell his story sooner than later would help the grieving process for a lot of people."
