DAVIE (CBSMiami) – A man is behind bars after Broward deputies say he was doing heroin in a car with his 3-year-old girl and a woman pregnant with twins.
Robert Bonaiuto, 38, is charged with child neglect and possession of heroin.
He appeared before a judge Tuesday in bond court. With an attorney by his side, they made his case.
“Your honor, he’s lived here for 28 years and he owns his own business which is a tree service,” said his attorney. “All his family is here.”
The judge asked him not to contact his children. Bonaiuto had one thing to say to the judge’s order.”It’s heartbreaking.”
“It’s heartbreaking,” he said.
According to his arrest report, Bonaiuto parked his black Ford Expedition on the side of a Davie 7-Eleven building on Monday evening.
That’s when deputies said they saw Bonaiuto along with two other people in the vehicle placing a red straw up their nose before dropping the items out of the window.
Officers say they later recovered the baggies and found heroin residue in them.
At some point, the two other passengers got out of the vehicle. That’s when officers approached Bonaiuto and asked him to get out of his vehicle.
As he got out of the vehicles, officers said he told them “I can get you guys whatever you need. I just don’t want to go to jail. Man,I relapsed and started using heroin again.”
Officers, at some point, noticed the 3-year old girl sitting in the backseat.
According to his arrest report, “The 3-year-old was in the rear seat throughout the entire incident.”
Authorities called the mother of the child who picked him up.
Bonaiuto was later arrested.
At his family’s home, no one wanted to talk about the arrest. A family friend said the 3-year-old girl is doing fine.
Officers said the woman who had been inside the vehicle is four months pregnant with twins. Both the woman and the other adult in the vehicle are reportedly coworkers of Bonaiuto.
