CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) – The beginning of the Mark Richt era has been a resounding success so far for the University of Miami football team.
The Hurricanes have breezed through their first three games, defeating Florida A&M, Florida Atlantic and Appalachian State by a combined score of 153-23.
Between the efficiency of the offense and the domination of the defense, Miami has gotten the attention of many in the college football world.
After beginning the season unranked, Miami entered week three as the No. 25 team in the nation.
Thanks to the Hurricanes’ latest big win, a 45-10 triumph at Appalachian State on Saturday, Miami continued its ascension up the rankings.
Heading into their bye week, the Canes find themselves ranked No 15 in the Associated Press poll and No. 19 in the Coaches Poll.
Miami hasn’t been ranked this high in either poll since November of 2013.
It’s the eighth time since 2000 that the Hurricanes have opened a season 3-0, but the games will get tougher as the season goes on.
Miami will be back in action on October 1st when they travel north to Atlanta for a conference game against Georgia Tech.
This will be the first ACC game for the Canes, who will play four straight conference games before facing Notre Dame on October 29th.
Following the Georgia Tech game, Miami returns home for perhaps their biggest test of the season when they host rival Florida State on October 8th.
