No matter what, it seems like the New England Patriots are trying to get some sort of edge.

Former Patriots and Miami Dolphins receiver Wes Welker joined The Jose Rose Show on Miami Sports Radio 560 WQAM in studio Friday morning to discuss Sunday's game between the AFC East rivals and Welker shared a peculiar anecdote about his former teammate – Patriots suspended quarterback Tom Brady.

"I hit him up to do dinner, like Saturday night," Welker said referring to a conversation with Brady. "He was like 'I'm going to be flying in from Ann Arbor [Michigan] later, but how about that morning we go throw?'"

Listen to Wes Welker tell the story on The Joe Rose Show:

Brady's currently serving an NFL-mandated four-game suspension, stemming from "Deflategate". An NFL-commissioned investigation conducted by attorney Ted Wells concluded it was "more probable than not" that Brady was "generally aware" of Patriots attendants deflating footballs prior to the AFC Championship Game against the Indianapolis Colts on Jan. 18, 2015.

Brady will be eligible to return for New England's week five game at FirstEnergy Stadium against the Cleveland Browns, but until then he's unable to attend games, practices, or even be inside any team facilities.

Welker spent six seasons with the Patriots, catching 662 passes during that span. He was undoubtedly one of Brady's favorite and most reliable targets – so it's no surprise that the surefire Hall of Fame quarterback would rather toss the ball around in his backyard with Welker than share a meal in one of Boston's fanciest restaurants.

Still finding ways to beat the system, huh Tom?
