MIAMI (CBSMiami) - One person was taken to the hospital after an early morning wrong way crash.

A witness told CBS4 a white mini-van, which was heading west in the east bound lanes of State Road 836, missed several cars before crashing into a Honda CRV. The impact was so great, it knocked the front wheels off and sent the vehicle skidding for about 200 yards.

After hitting the SUV, the mini-van spun out of control and bounced off both sides of the median before flipping on its side.

Agustin Freiele said the woman driving the mini-van accelerated when he tried to warn her she was going the wrong way.

"I started with the horn and put my hand out and screamed 'stop, stop'," said Freiele.

He then watched in horror.

"Coming a lot of cars. A lot of cars going to the right side. This guy can't do nothing, he go to the right side and crashed," said Freiele.

Thankfully, the driver of the SUV walked away without a scratch.

After the crash, several drivers stopped and helped the woman out of the mini-van. Her passenger was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with head injuries.

Freiele said the drive seemed more than overwhelmed.

"She don't know nothing because she's drunk," said Freiele.

She was detained by the Florida Highway Patrol.
