MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Sen. Marco Rubio isn't wasting any time.

Hours after winning the Florida GOP nomination for his second Senate term, he is already taking on his Democratic opponent U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy - challenging him to six debates.

Rubio took to social media Wednesday morning, asking his followers to help challenge his opponent.

As of 11 a.m., Murphy had not responded to Rubio's request.

The night before, Rubio beat millionaire developer Carlos Beruff who was the only major candidate to stay in the race after Rubio opted to run for re-election just two days before the deadline to make the ballot. Rubio had said he would not run again no matter what happened during his run to be the Republican nominee in the presidential race.  Republicans reportedly encouraged Rubio to change his mind, considering him the best option to keep the Senate seat in GOP hands as Democrats are seeking to regain the majority.

As for the race in November,  Rubio said he's looking forward to facing off with Murphy who he describes as a rich guy who has accomplished little in Congress and as a private businessman.

Murphy is also not wasting time. Murphy took to social media the night before, stating his case against Rubio.

Murphy defeated liberal Rep. Alan Grayson on Tuesday - aided by the backing of President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid. He is seen as a Democrat who appeals to moderate Republicans and Independents.
