Biscayne National Park Welcomes 100 New Americans In Naturalization Ceremony

HOMESTEAD (CBSMiami) -- Biscayne National Park is welcoming 100 new citizens to the United States in honor of the National Park Service's 100th birthday.

Eight different ceremonies took place throughout the 2016 year, including one on Thursday, August 25th, in the park's Dante Fascell Visitor Center at 9700 S.W. 328th Street.

"National parks represent our great nation in mountains and valleys, forests and deserts, oceans and rivers," said Acting Superintendent Bill Cox. "But they also represent our history and where we came from as a nation of immigrants. Biscayne National Park is an ideal setting for such an important event."

The National Park Service and U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services recently partnered to host naturalization ceremonies in national parks across the country.

In total, more than 1,000 individuals have been sworn into the ranks of citizenship at the park, with people, primarily children, coming from countries around the world such as China, Philippines and Cuba, among others.
