Accused Murderer Who Escaped Back In Broward Court

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- Under heavy security, an accused killer who escaped a Broward courthouse, prompting a massive manhunt, faced a judge.

Dayonte Resiles, 21, appeared in front of a judge Tuesday morning.

He's also charged with escape after bolting from the Broward County Courthouse courtroom last month. After being on the run for six days, Resiles was tracked to a Days Inn off I-95 in West Palm Beach where he was taken into custody.

At last check, eight people had been charged with helping in his escape.

Resiles, is accused of killing Jill Halliburton Su in her Davie home in a burglary gone bad in 2014. Su, 59, who was found bound at the hands and feet and stabbed multiple times near a bathroom. She was a grandniece of the Halliburton Co. founder.

On Tuesday, he decided that the attorney who is representing him on the murder charge will also represent him on the escape charge.

When he left the courtroom, he was flanked by four Broward Sheriff's Office deputies.

Resiles is due back in court in October. If convicted he could face the death penalty.
